Program Overview

The three years (six semesters) Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program provides an opportunity to pursue advanced study of the theory and principles of modern business. This program would help them (students) to sharpen the essential business skills and make them competent in changing the business environment. As a business graduate from the Department of Business and Management, Institute of Advanced Research (IAR) Gandhinagar, the students will be well-equipped to work and function in and adapt to the rapidly changing business environment. The BBA program at IAR aims to groom effective administrative and leadership qualities incorporating theoretical and practical knowledge by utilizing the participative teaching and learning methods. Students can choose elective courses in the third year (fifth and sixth semesters) of their studies. A wide range of open elective courses has been offered in the area of human resource, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, foreign trade, business analytics, and project management.

What makes these specialized areas stand out from the rest is the fact that they all are promising job oriented areas. These areas are going through excellent phases of growth and are not showing any sign of slowing down. With this phenomenal growth, a number of job opportunities are also being created in these areas. So, while pursuing BBA and specializing in the above any areas would open an ample amount of job opportunities for students.

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program at IAR Gandhinagar gives fundamental education to their students to manage the key employment areas such as finance and accounting, human resource management, marketing management, supply chain management, tourism management, event management, bank management, business research, market research, research and development manager, Business consultant, information system manager, communication and media management, international business, and entrepreneurship. Further, the BBA program at IAR Gandhinagarenables students that aspirants can pursue the Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (PGDBA) program after completing the same. Students can specialize in their desired discipline not only the traditional that include Systems, Finance, Human Resource, Marketing but also in the emerging areas like Data Science, Hospital Management, Healthcare Management while pursuing the MBA program.

The course structure of the BBA program is distributed in six semesters. In each of the semesters, 20-22 credits would be offered to the students. The BBA program is constituted with a subject pool of compulsory courses, discipline-specific core/elective courses, interdisciplinary courses, and skill development courses. The majority of compulsory/core/elective courses are offered under the 4 (3 + 1) credit schemes, where 3 credits are for theoretical learning and the remaining 1 credit is for practical learning scheme. However, skill development courses are focused to teach the state of the art business research tools, research approaches, banking systems, and environmental studies. Further, we have also included a range of subjects that would enhance the English and Business Communication Skills of the students. A proficient business communication would help them to sharpen their managerial and leadership skills in the modern business environment. At the end of sixth-semester studies in the BBA program, students are expected to earn at least 128 credits to secure for qualifying to get a degree in the BBA program.Students are also encouraged to earn additional credits through attending seminars, workshops, summer courses/schools, summer internship/projects, assignments, industrial visits, and part-time jobs.

Note: After completion of the IVth semester the students will go for the 06-08 week summer internship program in industries or equivalent organizations to explore professionalism. It would be a 02 Credit professional training course, where students will learn practical exposure to the BBA course in the area of their interest.
